Abdullahi Adamu, the former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has denied social media rumors that he defected to the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Adamu rejected the allegations as untrue and an effort to garner attention on social media in an interview with New Telegraph on Thursday.
“I am not an ungrateful politician,” he clearly declared, highlighting his devotion and dedication to his political career.
Adamu has a lengthy political career, having held the position of Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) under former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He is a two-term governor of Nasarawa State and a senator for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Prior to becoming the APC’s National Chairman in 2022, he was instrumental in the party’s establishment and helped propel it to prominence.
The rumor that Adamu had defected to ADC became viral on the internet, implying that the alleged action was the outcome of a growing divide inside the APC. Months of discreet consultations and discontent with the APC’s internal orientation were mentioned in the report. The report claims that Adamu’s departure would be a major blow to the APC because he has been one of its most important leaders since the party’s founding in 2015.
Adamu, however, vehemently denied these assertions, saying, “Don’t mind the social media reporter.” They’re trying to get me to come out, but I have nothing to say. I’m not a politician who lacks gratitude. I am where I am now because I served at the top level of my party.
After President Bola Tinubu won the general election in 2023, Adamu was removed from his position as National Chairman of the APC. He vigorously backed Senate President Ahmed Lawan’s APC-backed presidential campaign during his tenure.
