After Nigeria defeated Mozambique 4-0 in the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16, Super Eagles attacker Akor Adams departed the national team’s camp.
The Super Eagles’ official X site posted a brief message on Tuesday confirming the development.
The statement claims that Adams was given permission to leave camp in order to care for his mother, who was admitted to the hospital on Monday.
“Akor Adams has been given permission to leave camp in order to visit his mother, who was admitted to the hospital yesterday.
The statement said, “We’re sending prayers and strength to him and wishing his mum a quick recovery.”
Adams began the game and went on to score the Super Eagles’ fourth goal against the Mambas despite learning of the news prior to Nigeria’s encounter versus Mozambique.
Given the circumstances surrounding his departure, supporters praised his efforts.
The Super Eagles forward, who plays club football for Sevilla, may or may not return in time for Nigeria’s quarterfinal match on Saturday.
In the tournament’s following round, the Super Eagles will play either Algeria or the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
