Wike’s 2023 Support for Tinubu Was a Political Gamble — Former LG Chair

The people of Rivers State are profiting from a political risk taken by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to Samuel Nwanosike, the former chairman of the Ikwerre Local Government Area.

Nwanosike told reporters that when Wike chose to back President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections, he was taking a political risk.

He emphasized that since taking office in May 2023, the president has authorized the nominations of a number of state natives.

He asserted that in 2027, every eligible voter in Rivers State will cast a ballot for the president’s reelection.

He claims that there is no other way to express gratitude to a man who has contributed significantly to Rivers State.

“Wike understood our future and made the political decision to back an APC presidential candidate in 2023.

Parts of Tinubu’s pledges to the Rivers people have already been fulfilled even before he held power for up to three years.

“We are all voting for President Tinubu in 2027; we are not doing political parties.”

In the meantime, Wike has stated that he is keeping a careful eye on events within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Oyo State, emphasizing that his concern is rooted in his dedication to the party’s continued existence and power.

Wike reportedly said those things on Monday while addressing the 105th PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

“Let me be clear about my interest: I want this party to survive and succeed. I’m also curious about all that is going on in the Oyo State PDP. He said, “That’s all I’m interested in.”

Wike also denied reports that PDP members were being intimidated, especially considering recent court rulings in favor of his party’s section.

“Who will intimidate us to the end?” he declared. By God’s grace, some of us are blind to the threats that others may pose to us. The legal dispute is over. The only thing they can do is acknowledge the Caretaker Committee.

His remarks seem to allude to the struggle for dominance inside the Oyo PDP after a faction loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed annulled a parallel national convention held in November 2025.

“The convention organized by the Makinde-Bala group was previously declared invalid by the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, which sided with the faction that formed a Caretaker Committee for the state.”
