Ojo Reveals Possible Reasons Peter Obi Might Quit ADC Pre-2027 Polls

According to Jide Ojo, a public affairs specialist, Peter Obi might leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) before the 2027 elections if he doesn’t receive the party’s presidential ticket.

In an interview with Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, Ojo predicted that Obi would lose the ADC presidential ticket to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, especially if the party decides to hold indirect primaries.

Ojo said that if Obi lost to Atiku for the ADC nomination, the former governor of Anambra State may leave the party in order to pursue his goal of becoming president.

According to rumors, Atiku has been an excellent charitable spender throughout party primaries.

He stated, “I can see Peter Obi probably going to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for another party, assuming, without conceding that in a free and fair primary in ADC Atiku emerges.”

According to Ojo, Atiku is not only interested in the ADC ticket but also wants to be on the front lines of choosing the ADC candidate or the winner.

Ojo stated, “There are concerns in some quarters that he might outspend Peter Obi, especially if they are going to conduct indirect primaries.”

But according to the expert, Obi has a good following, and he was followed to the ADC by other powerful political figures.

On December 31, 2025, I watched the live broadcast of his previous defection from the Labour Party to ADC. On that day, at least four senators from the Southeast, sixteen members of the House of Representatives from the Southeast, and an undetermined number of members of the State House of Assembly declared their intention to join him.

“I didn’t see any serving lawmaker or governor defecting with Atiku Abubakar when he defected weeks earlier, toward the end of November,” he continued.

Ojo confirmed that Obi’s announcement that he would run for president in 2027 is proof that he is not prepared to take a backseat to anyone.

“Even though the party emblem appears on the ballot, only the prime candidate, the candidate of the party, will receive the certificate of return if someone declares that they will be on the ballot.

He stated, “What Peter Obi is saying is that he is not going to play second fiddle.”
