FG Opens Applications for Overseas Postgraduate Scholarships for Nigerians

Applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme are already being accepted, according to a federal announcement.

According to reports, the program gives Nigerian postgraduate students the opportunity to study in Malaysia, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom.

The scholarship program is available to MSc and PhD candidates in fields related to the oil and gas industry, according to material on the scholarship board’s website.

Full support will be provided to beneficiaries, including tuition, return airfare, living and housing allowances, health insurance, and, if necessary, bench fees.

According to the PTDF release, “the 2026 Overseas MSc and PhD Scholarships provide access to world-class training, research facilities, and global expertise while developing indigenous capacity in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.”

The grant will work in a split-site system for PhD candidates enrolled at UK universities. This enables researchers to conduct studies at the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK) as well as at a few partner universities in the UK, such as the University of Portsmouth, the University of Strathclyde, and Robert Gordon University.

The organization stated that ultimate beneficiaries will be chosen on the basis of merit and that the program is extremely competitive.

According to the announcement, “only candidates who demonstrate outstanding merit and suitability will be considered.”

It further stated that academic records, research plans, professional memberships, and the study’s applicability to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector will all be taken into consideration.

Applicants must be computer proficient, have completed the NYSC program, have at least five O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics, and have at least a Second Class Lower (2.2) or Second Class Upper (2.1) in their first degree in order to be eligible for the MSc category. Additionally, PhD candidates must submit a five-page research proposal outlining their goals, methodology, and plans for gathering data.

The PTDF statement went on, “All applicants must ensure their National Identity Number (NIN) is verified prior to application, and multiple applications or submission of falsified documents will result in automatic disqualification.”

For programs recognized at PTDF partner institutions, applications must be filed online at scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng.

Submissions must be made by February 27.
